Cocoa Butter

Description: Natural fat from the seeds of the fruit of the Cacao tree (grows in tropical regions), rich in oleic, stearic & palmitic fatty acids, contains also flavors (e.g. vanillic acid), sterols, tannins & pigments. Soft, yellow semi-solid fat, pleasant cacao odor. Soluble in warm alcohol or oils, insoluble in water. CAS# 8002-31-2.

INCI Name: Cocoa butter.

Properties: High-quality skin softener & conditioner, film forming agent, non-gelling thickener, moisturizer, anti-wrinkles effects, restores skin flexibility, emulsion stabilizer.

Use: Warm to melt before use, add to fatty phase of formula, usual concentrations: creams 3-6%, balms 6-60%.

Applications: Creams, lotions, pomades, balms, protective creams, ointments, makeup products, conditioners.

Zinc Oxides: Which One is Right for You?

Regular zinc oxide has a particle size of >200 nm (nanometer), a visible whitening effect on the skin, is water dispersible, gives great coverage in makeup products and lip balms, and offers good protection in baby care products.
Micronized zinc oxide has a particle size of <200nm (mean 86nm), has a minimal whitening effect on the skin, is water dispersible, offers superior sun protection but does not offer coverage in makeup products.
Micronized zinc oxide coated with silicone offers basically the same features as non-coated micronized zinc oxide but is easier to disperse in oils, and works well in formulas containing carbomers.
