Uva-ursi leave extract

Description: Skin lightening agent made from bearberry leaves extract (arctostaphylos uva-ursi) & vitamin C (magnesium ascorbyl phosphate). Clear yellowish solution. Soluble in water. CAS# 84776-10-3, 18962-61-3, 56-81-5.

INCI Name: Arctostaphylos uva-ursi leave extract, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, glycerin.

Properties: Inhibits skin cells to produce melanin pigments by inhibiting the tyrosinase activity by reducing melanin biosynthesis, effectively lightens age spots & dark skin areas, very popular in Asian countries to depigment the skin.

Use: Recommended use level 4 - 8%, only 1% when combined with exfoliants, add to the water phase (not over 60oC) or to finished products, stable in the pH-range of 4.0 to 7.0.

Application: All kinds of skin-lightening products including lotions, creams, fluids, makeup products.

Zinc Oxides: Which One is Right for You?

Regular zinc oxide has a particle size of >200 nm (nanometer), a visible whitening effect on the skin, is water dispersible, gives great coverage in makeup products and lip balms, and offers good protection in baby care products.
Micronized zinc oxide has a particle size of <200nm (mean 86nm), has a minimal whitening effect on the skin, is water dispersible, offers superior sun protection but does not offer coverage in makeup products.
Micronized zinc oxide coated with silicone offers basically the same features as non-coated micronized zinc oxide but is easier to disperse in oils, and works well in formulas containing carbomers.
