Solvents & Stabilizers

Stabilizers comprise a variety of compounds that are able to maintain the function and activity of other ingredients such as, for example, active ingredients, fragrances and essential oils. In this group there are also several agents that are used for stabilizing the pH value thereby avoiding excessive acidity or alkalinity. A balanced pH value is particularly important for creating stable emulsions. As many ingredients are barely soluble in water special solvents may be necessary to bring such ingredients into solution. Typical solvents include glycerin and propylene glycol.

Weekly News & Facts
Ceramides
Ceramides are structural lipids and are located between skin cells in the connective tissue. They are also thought to play a considerable role in the water-holding potential of the stratum corneum. Ceramides are also a major skin cell component and are responsible for cell stability by forming a multilamellae architecture. Ceramide, ceramide 3, ceramide 6 II, ceramide 1 (available as ceramide complex and lacto-ceramide) have been clinically shown to be effective in preventing and improving dry and blemished skin.
