PEG-150 Distearate

Description: Polyethylene glycol diester of stearic acid. White flake, characteristic odor, slightly cloudy in water, clear in surfactant-containing solutions. Soluble in water. CAS# 9005-08-7.

INCI Name: PEG-150 distearate.

Properties: Extremely effective thickener for surfactant-containing products (e.g. shampoo, conditioner, shower gels), solubilizer for various water-insoluble ingredients, good co-emulsifying properties in creams & lotions.

Use: Heat to melt (60oC/140oF) to incorporate into formulas, typical use level 0.5 - 5% (even at low levels there is a thickening effect).

Applications: Shampoo, conditioner, shower gels, baby shampoo, bubble bath, creams, lotions & other emulsions.

Zinc Oxides: Which One is Right for You?

Regular zinc oxide has a particle size of >200 nm (nanometer), a visible whitening effect on the skin, is water dispersible, gives great coverage in makeup products and lip balms, and offers good protection in baby care products.
Micronized zinc oxide has a particle size of <200nm (mean 86nm), has a minimal whitening effect on the skin, is water dispersible, offers superior sun protection but does not offer coverage in makeup products.
Micronized zinc oxide coated with silicone offers basically the same features as non-coated micronized zinc oxide but is easier to disperse in oils, and works well in formulas containing carbomers.
