Xanthan Gum A high-molecular polysaccharide excretion product from bacteriae (Xanthomas campestris) composed of glucose, mannose & glucuronic acid. It is used as a thickener in cosmetics and also foods.
Xanthene Large class of certified colorants. The acids are derived from fluorescein. The quinoid acid type is represented by FD & C Red NO. 3, erythrosine, used often in lipsticks. The phenolic formulations, often called bromo acids, are represented by D & C Red No. 2, used to stain lips. The only basic type certified is D & C Red No. 19, also called rhodamine B.
Xerosis Dry skin.
Ximenia Americana Widely distributed family of tropical shrubs and trees. Its essential oils has a scent like sandelwood and is used in fragrances.
