Oxygen is a highly reactive gaseous compound and cannot be included in a skin care product in its pure form. Oxygen skin care products therefore contain an oxidizing agent like Hydrogen Peroxide. However, the oxidizing capacity of hydrogen peroxide is so strong that it is considered a highly reactive oxygen species. Years ago, hydrogen peroxide has been used to disinfect wounds, but it is now thought to slow healing by affecting tissue growth by producing free radicals. Free radicals also formed, for example, by UV radiation are unwanted in skin care due to their damaging and age-promoting effects. Therefore, antioxidants like vitamin E and others are added to skin care products. The FDA has its reservations for using Hydrogen Peroxide and we don't recommend it either.
