Protect Your Skin and Hair During Summer

Summer means taking extra steps in protecting and nourishing not only your skin but also your hair. Here are some tips for keeping your skin and hair looking and feeling healthy all summer long.

Hair Care

Swimming in pools or in the ocean is a fun and exciting way to spend summer vacations with the whole family. Unfortunately, this can cause a lot of damage to the hair. Thankfully, there are a lot of different products/ingredients that can take care of dry or damaged hair. For Example, the popular brand “Sun Bum” has a 3-1 Leave-in Conditioner that uses Coconut Oil, Quinoa Protein, and Sunflower Seed Oil to control frizz, prevent split ends, and condition hair.

At MakingCosmetics, we have amazing and high-quality ingredients that will allow you to create a similar formula to this one. But by creating your own, you can tailor it to your hair. We have Coconut Oil and Quinoa Protein – both are perfect for creating a nourishing leave-in hair conditioner formulation. Or, if you don’t want to start from scratch, you can always try using our Leave-In Conditioner Spray Base that is formulated with Aloe Leaf Juice, Castor Oil, and so many more nutrient-rich ingredients! By making it yourself, you can make a supply that will last you all summer!

Don’t Forget About Your Skin

Taking your skincare to a whole other level in the summer is very important. Even if you’ve used an SPF -type product, being out in the sun all day can be drying to your skin. According to Vaseline, a lot of sun exposure can cause significant damage to the skin as it damages or even kills skin cells – causing your skin to be dry and even prematurely wrinkled.

To replenish the skin, it’s important to use a high-quality moisturizer. For example, First Aid Beauty created their Ultra Repair® Cream Intense Hydration that uses Colloidal Oatmeal to relieve itching and minor irritations caused by various skin conditions. We also offer this miracle ingredient. And with it, you can make your own intense hydration cream. A sample formulation that we have created is our Soothing Lotion with Colloidal Oatmeal and Ceramides. It’s made to nourish and soothe your skin.

There is also Jojoba Oil: the simple, yet super effective ingredient that is an all-natural form of after-sun care. According to Cosmetics & Toiletries, Jojoba Oil is safe to use on all skin types, even sun-injured skin as it can assist in the rejuvenating process. Add Jojoba Oil to lotions, creams, or even hair care products as a soothing and moisturizing ingredient.

Correcting What’s Already Been Done

If you like many of us already have sun damage including dark spots and wrinkles, it might be worth it to invest in a dark spot corrector or even an anti-wrinkle serum. City Beauty offers a dark spot corrector called Illuminating Dark Spot Corrector and by using it, it can result in a more even-toned complexion.

For a more specialized formula, you can make your own with our products. The key ingredients in the City Beauty dark spot corrector are Alpha-Arbutin, Resveratrol, and Amino Acid Compounds. At MakingCosmetics, we do carry all these three key ingredients. To give you a great starting point, you can try our Skin-Whitening Cream-Gel with Two Skin-Whiteners. It doesn’t have all the ingredients listed above, but it does have alpha-arbutin and our SkinWhite MSH – another great dark spot correcting product. Note that when you are using such products on your skin, good sun protection is a must.

Even with all of these great products, it’s important to apply a high SPF sunscreen, limit sun exposure and stay hydrated. So, no matter what your summer plans are – stay safe, but remember to have fun too!
