Coloring Bases

Coloring Instructions for Cosmetic Bases

Please find below specific guidelines on how to color lipstick bases and eye shadow bases. As for lipstick bases, we generally recommend to use liquid D&C colors as primary coloring agents. They provide an intense coloring effect and are easy to formulate with since they are already pre-dispersed in a liquid. Micas can be added to add some shimmer, but micas are usually not used as primary pigments in lipstick products since their coloring capability is rather weak. If a more intense, vibrant color is needed we recommend using also dry D&C colors together with liquid pigment dispersion. Eye shadow bases are colored primarily with mica pigments.
