Ectoin is a natural amino acid derivative produced by microorganisms to survive harsh environmental conditions. In skincare it acts as a hydrator and it works by forming a stable, protective hydration shield around skin cells that may help defend against UV radiation, pollution, and dryness.

Ectoin is produced through controlled biological fermentation of glucose and is then purified through membrane filtration and salt removal, followed by decolorization, concentration, ethanol crystallization, centrifugation, and drying. The Ectoin is then screened before packaging.
