Raw Material Source
Caramel is produced by heating carbohydrates (e.g fructose, dextrose, invert sugar, sucrose, or malt syrup) in the presence of food grade acids (e.g. sulfuric, sulfurous, phosphoric, acetic and citric acids) or salts (e.g. ammonium, sodium, and potassium carbonate, bicarbonate, phosphate).

Caramel is a FDA-approved color additive but is exempt from batch certification. It is safe for use in coloring cosmetics generally, including cosmetics applied to the area of the eye, in amounts consistent with good manufacturing practice.
